Scavenger Hunt - Friday 26th - Sunday 28th
25 June 09
Your very first chance to win one of the prize Medicine Hat paints is coming up this weekend at Darky's Amazing Scavenger Hunt!
16 riddles will be hidden around the sim - you'll get your first from the starting point, and the answer will lead you to the next. When you think you've found it, simply click whatever it is - if you're right, you'll get the next riddle - simple as that!
This is a timed event, but the winner is the person who finds all the clues in the quickest time, not the first - so don't worry if you can't be there at the start, you've got all weekend to explore - but remember, the moment you click the sign and get the first riddle, the timer starts!
There are some great prizes up for grabs in this comp, so come have a go!
- 1st prize - 2009 Medicine Hat Paint (avatar or Aaliyah riding horse)
- 2nd prize - L$1,500 Hoof It gift certificate
- 3rd prize - L$1,000 Hoof It gift certificate

What Is a Medicine Hat Paint?
A Medicine Hat Paint is a Paint Horse that has an uncommon pattern where the poll and ears are coloured fur, surrounded completely by white. A true "medicine hat" pinto or paint usually has a predominantly white body, with dark coloration by the flanks/chest and around the eyes.
The TRUE Medicine Hat Paint colour is very hard to achieve in real life, and today is carefully done by selective breeding (and sometimes happens completely by accident!)
Why are these Horses so special In Real Life?
Legend has the Medicine Hat Horse imbedded in the cultures of the Sioux, Cheyenne, Blackfoot, Comanche, and Kiowa Native American Tribes. The Horse's "powers" vary from tribe to tribe. Some of these legends include:- The Rider of the Medicine Hat Horse would never be harmed so long as he was on the Horse's back. They believed that the "shield" marking that covers the Horse's chest would protect the Horse and Rider through any hardship or battle.
- The Horse was very in-tune to nature, and could guide his rider to wild game even in the most barren of landscapes.
- Because their main body colour is white they were considered very lucky. They often had Magic or Power Symbols added to their coats. These symbols reflected the strengths of their rider and also told the story of what the horse had been through. Battles, Ceremonies, and Buffalo Running are just some examples of Power Symbols that have been painted on these horses.
- Only Great Warriors, Medicine Men, and Tribal Chiefs were allowed to ride Medicine Hat Horses.
- If a Tribe lost their Medicine Hat Horse, it was believed that all of the "good magic" was gone from their tribe, and that great misfortune would soon follow.
So, why are these Horses special in Second Life?
The only way to get one of these horses is to compete in a competition we hold at Hoof It (the monthly XC competition is not included unless specifically advertised). We'll announce when we are going to put one of these up as a first place prize :D So pay attention!
- These Horses will ONLY be available for the year of 2009. Once this year is gone, so are these wonderful horses!
- This coat coloration is available on the Horse Avatar and the Riding Horse (Aaliyah, the Arabian). You get to choose which one you want if you win the competition!
- The Horse Avatar features 6 different face textures, so you can be even more customized!
- The only way to get this horse is to win it! You cannot buy one, regardless how much you offer us! (srsly.)
- You have the option to GIFT your prize to someone, so if you win a competition, and you want to give your spoils away to a friend who you think would appreciate it, let us know before we give you your prize, and we'll give it to your friend =)
