Bronco competition!
25 April 2009
jump

The bronco is back for 24 hours. Can you stick on and hit those keys quick enough to get the top score? Whoever stays on longest will win L$500, with L$300 going to second and L$200 to third.

Come give it a try! Entries are free so you can practise until you have it down, and perhaps you'll be hobbling away with first prize :D I'm also taking embarassing pictures and putting them in the board while I'm there, so be warned!

Spring Creators' Market - 18 April - 3 May
16 April 2009
market

For the last two weeks in April we'll be holding the Spring Creator's market. This is an opportunity for creators of equestrian items to advertise and sell their wares for free. Well, you can sell them for a price, you just don't get charged for doing so!

Whilst we welcome everyone, old and new vendors alike, the real aim of the market is to encourage those who haven't sold anything before, or don't have / can't afford regular vendor space in a large mall. It's an opportunity for you to show your stuff to a horsey audience - so if you have something you've made yourself, perhaps received compliments on, why not think about selling?

I've already seen some fantastic accessories for the horse avatars, and I know people are making animations for the centaurs and ponies - so what better place to sell 'em?! You don't just have to sell items for Hoof It products - anything equestrian goes :)

If you'd like to take part, drop me (Erin Talamasca) a notecard with your name, what you want to sell, what sort of vendor you're using (wall mounted or free standing) and how many prims you think you'll need. I'll invite you to the market group and you can set up your wares.

This is only the second market we've held, and it can take time to drum up interest, but the more people hear about it and the more excellent products you bring, the more it'll catch on. So spread the word, and let's see what we can do :)

Beggars belief
15 April 2009

When there's fresh horsemeat, it doesn't take long for the vultures to start appearing.

I've had many reports of people hanging round the vendors, begging for money to buy avatars and accessories. I like to think that I'm a pretty easy-going person, but the one thing I will NOT tolerate is harassment of my customers - and this is harassment, plain and simple.

Whilst some people might very genuinely have difficulty getting L$, it's worth remebering that for some, begging is a bit of a hobby, and this won't be the first time they've asked for 'help' - nor will it be the last. Please bear this in mind, no matter what sob story or buttering-up you hear. In fact, the better the story, the more likely it is you're dealing with an old hand who's got a bit of a taste for free toys at others' expense.

There are plenty of legitimate ways to make L$ - and please remember - this is a game. These people aren't begging for food, or cash to keep their family alive. They're begging for a toy in a game which they happen to fancy. It's analogous to standing outside an electronics store and saying "I reeeeeeeeally like MP3 players but they're so expensive! Spare any change?". You don't need to support that.

If anyone asks you for money or 'help' to buy any items, either in public, IM or group chat, please help me put a stop to it. Any of the following would be much appreciated:

1) Don't give anything away
If it's a good story, it's a good scam

2) File an abuse report (AR)
Yup, harassment is abuse. If they seem lovely, it's cos they know it works.

3) Let me know
If I know who's trying it on, I can stop them

4) Tell them what you've done
Knowing you're onto them and they've been reported may put them off trying again. For a bit. Possibly.

So, sorry for the rather sad and serious post after such a lovely weekend, but I don't like to see people played and having it happen on my land makes me very cross indeed. So please, if you see anything like this going on, help me put a stop to it.

March XC Competition Winners
1 April 2009
XC

We had an excellent turnout this month with 41 entries, but there could only be one winner! Congratulations to Eboni who ran closest to the secret recorded time on her mount Claude with a time of 02:08.14.. Close behind was Findhorn on his horse Emrys at 02:08.63, and in third place was Landra on Shrek with 02:08.94. This was a really close competition, so congratulations to everyone and I hope you had fun!

I realise there are some problems with your horse and rider names not always making it to the database. I'm trying to work out why that is and fix it, but in the meantime, if this happens to you, just send me a message telling me the name of your horse and I'll update the results.

You can see the full results here.

The April cross country is an speed competition, so get those hooves a' movin'!
